As many of you know, the American Hotel at Cerro Gordo burned down June 15, 2020.
We are crushed, devastated, and drained. The common assessment right now is that the culprit was a doomed combination of old and faulty electrical and thin dry wood that was insulated by 100 year old newspaper.
We will mourn this properly, but we have no choice to see beyond this quickly and move forward. Cerro Gordo has at several times in its history burned down. The town that once had hundreds of buildings now has less than twenty. While modern materials will help us minimize this in the future, we are here now, and we still have a lot to be thankful for.
We have the architectural specs for the hotel. We have the original plans for the bar in the hotel. We just need a lot of money to rebuild.
As part of our fundraising efforts, we are selling original nails recovered from the ashes of the hotel. These are 1800s nails that once held together the American Hotel.
Now you can own a piece of American History and help us rebuild the hotel for generations to come.
Each order comes with one nail and accompanying information card, hand stamped with an American Hotel logo.
The suggested donation is $10 for each nail, but an additional donation is greatly appreciated. Every dollar collected will go directly into rebuilding efforts.
